    virgin downtown disney checkin

Hi I'm new to the forum, although I have been a lurker for a while!! This is a great forum and have passed the word to family and friends.

Could anyone confirm if the check in at Downtown Disney is still open for Virgin flights? And if it is, where exactly is it located?

    Thanks
Lesley ( 7 weeks to go and counting)

    Hi Lesley
Welcome to the forum. Yes Downtown checkin is open again for Virgin flights. its located near the Cirque de Soleil canopy. You can see the computer desks opposite the car park. I think it is 8-30 till 1 eveery day so you can checkin the day you are travelling. If you've booked with Virgin hols its free but otherwise it is $5 per person.
I know some people havent been charged but we were in April so just to forewarn people its best to assume you will have to pay.

Yes - it's definitely open. Here's a page on one of our sites about it:

    Silly question to ask

Obviously all of us need to be there to check in, but do we need to take our hand luggage along with us
or can this be left at the Villa .

    Hi chris,

Not sure about the hand luggage, they did put labels on ours but no checked them when we were getting on the plane and we had extra bags by then (carriers with bottled water and snacks).
They were getting quite strict about the weight of the suitcases though. Although they have a very generous 56Kg allowance the max weight per bag is 32Kg.We saw one poor family with a young baby trying to spread some of the contents of a very large suitcase between 2 much smaller cases that were already bursting at the seams, not easy in the middle of the footpath with a baby under one arm and a crowd of on lookers......at least it wasn't raining!

The Virgin allowance is 64kg per person (over 2 who have paid for a seat).
We left our hand luggage in the car and weren't asked about it at all in April.
Some friends of ours thought it better to use 1 large suitcase for the 3 of them but ended up paying $118 in excess baggage as it was over 32kg but they were obvioulsy well under what they could have had (192kg).

    Thanks Steph

The idea is to book in as soon as it opens, then go back to the Villa for breccie a tidy and clean up
and then pack the hand luggage and head off mid day for some shopping, so our hand luggage first thing
in the morning wouldnt even be packed

Thanks everyone! I definately agree that even $5 each charge will be worth it.

On a similar note, if you fly out of Heathrow, no matter what your airline baggage allowance is, they will not let you check bags of more than 32kg per bag. They are apparently going to provide some sort of bags for people to use for their excess.
