where do you leave your passport?

Can i ask all you experts, where do you leave your passports while on holiday?
Our villa does not have a safe. Some advice is just leave it in the villa anyway, others say always carry them with you!

    Thanks for any advice

I just leave them somewhere hidden away a little. I did lose mine on my last visit and it was surprisingly easy and straight forward to get a temp one to travel back, not something you want to do last minute though.

We always leave ours in the safe - but if you havent got one - can you lock it in your suit case?

If there is no safe, then like Martin says just leave it somewhere hidden away - perhaps your villa will have a monitored alarm anyway [msnsmile]

We usually either lock in a safe if provided or carry it around. Have to admit, it is not too much bother to carry it around

If you do not have any other form of photo ID you will need to carry it round with you in any case. I am sure that it is a Florida State Law requirement that you carry photo id at all times. No doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong[msnwink]

most places ask for photo id if you are cashing travelers cheques,so if dont have a photo driving licence you will need to have it with you. We were stopped on the I-27 by the police late one night and the police asked for our passport because we have the old style licence, luckily I had my husbands in my bag.
When i do leave it in the villa I usually put them in a plastic bag along with tickets etc and tape them to the back of the headboard in the master or the underside of a drawer.

We used to hide them around the villa until we got a safe...thing was we change where we'd put them and forget were we'd hidden them...does that make sense?
