I can quite imagine - they seem to be being somewhat erratic about how they do things and we cannot get a definitive answer out of them so are erring on the side of caution.

I know I've had to pay for gas on pickup at Sanford before but when I protested they told me if I brought it back full, they would wave the charge [msnwink]

when we picked up our dollar car at sanford it had a full tank and i had to sign a credit card authorization for the petrol, $54 bit steep and was told to return it empty. Previously when i have been i picked it up full and was told to return it full, with no charge for the fuel. Definately going for the gold option next time as it works out better value.

I didn't buy the Gold option because I was on my own and would be the only driver. So chose the Fully Inclusive option and was more than happy to return the car full of fuel. They would not let me do that. I protested at Alamo in Sanford this April and was told that if I didn't pay for the fuel there and then, that I couldn't have the car!!! The guy was quite unpleasant, and if I hadn't had to be somewhere by 5pm I would certainly have argued my case!!

He also gave my a really basic car too, so I drove to Orlando airport the next day, went straight into the Alamo rental area, complained that the steering wheel was too thick for me to grip properly (it was but I suppose I could have coped!!) and they invited me to choose a car from one section of the car park. Much nicer!!!

Whenever we've rented a car in Florida and even in Europe for the past few years they've insisted on charging me for fuel at an inflated price and bring the car back empty. This is obviously designed to make them a bit more profit but like most people I cant' be bothered to argue about it. Still its not nearly as bad as the scam we couldnt'avoid when we used to book holidays in Florida through tour operators who would include "FREE" car hire in the price of the holiday you just had to pay for insurance which could total well over £200 a week for a very basic car.

Just phoned and it seems we can take the car back empty. Seems we have the
super duper all singing dancing cover. Wonder if the car drives itself, now
    that would be nice
