Your right, they have their own desk just before the Dollar one
I've seen that desk but it's always been deserted every time we've been there. Everyone was in the main Dollar queue. Perhaps they booked independantly and just went for Dollar by choice?

Last time I went through Orlando John, Virgin had their own Dollar check-in desk, so their passengers didn't join the normal Dollar queue.

Queues at the Dollar desk can vary and they are usually busy. I had to wait an hour for my turn, not the easiest thing to do after a long flight. They wanted to physically see the co-driver and his papers - in this case my brother-in-law.
As I have said before, please be wary of the 'free upgrades' offered by the agent; you may end up with exactly what you don't want. It happened to us.

sorry you are correct i meant to say one floor down...
must have been the sun yesterday....
Don't do what I did last month. Booked with an Off Site car supplier. You had to ring from a courtesy phone on the ground floor at MCO and the company sent a shuttle bus. Due to slight language barrier ended up waiting almost an hour in the wrong place and three phone calls later finally got to the right point. Fifteen minutes drive to McCoy Road in the shuttle to pick up the car! I could have been home with a beer by then.
I'll stick to Dollar in future. Even their queues aren't an hour and a quarter long.
Better still -going via Sanford in Oct. Usually much quicker overall departure with car! [msnsmile]

This is a great tip - but please don't tell everyone as it will become ineffective if we all do it [msnwink].
It's exactly what we did when we last went over and we went right up to the Dollar desk with no queue and then by the time we had gone back up one floor our bags were just starting to come out. By the time we had picked up our bags and gone back downstairs to pick up our car the queue at the Dollar desk was horrendous. I think we must have saved ourselves at least a 1/2 hour wait [msnsmile2]
Dollar is normally ok with minimal or no wait - the problem occurs when a Virgin B747 arrives and the passengers start to filter through as Virgin Holidays use Dollar and so any passengers who have booked car hire will be using Dollar. For indirect flights that arrive at other times there is no problem at all.

Hi John
Did you go on an internal flight ?
Other wise I presumed you had cleared immigration but not Customs
I don`t understand how you could leave the baggage hall go through customs without your baggage and then return to get your bags.
Sorry for being thick if there is something I`ve missed.
Cheers
Ian
I think John meant that instead of waiting at the second baggage claim, he went downstairs
collected the keys and then went back up for the luggage. You have already cleared customs
and immigration at this point

How does the baggage claim system work? Do you pick up bags once then put them back on another carousel? if so why?
We are also hiring from Dollar but with only one named driver so we can pick up the car before the 2nd baggage pick up if I am reading everyone right?![]()

Yes, you can. If there is just the one driver, the ideal time to pick up the car is while the rest of your party are waiting for the 'second' luggage pick-up. You only have to go down one flight of stairs (or use the lift) to the Dollar desk and if you plan this well with your family, you can get to the Dollar queue ahead of several other people, thus saving valuable time.

That's exactly what I meant Chris [msnsmile2]
