    Wildlife

Can anyone recommend a good place to view wildlife? I've heard some of the lakes are good but which ones? I'll be taking my binoculars!

Please don't post Animal Kingdom or Sea World either!
    Many thanks

Find links on Google to the Florida State Parks. They are such good value. Most have waashrooms, showers etc, refreshment areas as well a BBQ areas (take your own coals and food. Some charge a small fee of less than $5 dollars per car. Faciliteies are good the wild life, and or , beaches ar some of the best you will find in Florida. They are all over Florida both inland and on the cost. It is Floridas best kept secret. <blockquote id="quote" class="ffs">quote:Originally posted by bridget

Any lakes! There's quite a bit of info here http://www.orlandovillas.com/florida_guide/wildlife.asp and there's a nature reserve next door to Crescent Lakes and also the Disney Wilderness Preserve in Poinciana just down the road from there.

You can always visit Lake Louisa which is on Hwy 27 going towards Clermont, its fantastic. you can visit it on www.FloridaStateParks.org

We've seen all sorts of wildlife there, last time we went there some huge bird flew over our car with a snake in its mouth ( then it dropped the damned thing about a foot away from my open window, I nearly had heart failure as I am terrified of the snakes)

Its also the home of the gopher tortoise ( Florida's only land tortoise)

There is also a beach there and in the lake there is a WW11 plane which crashed and was only recently found during a drought, you can hike, bike, horse ride, fish, canoe/kayak and camp.

Karen I see you agree about the State parks. Have you tried any on the coast on your visits?.

Hi George, no I haven't but we do go up to a place on the Gulf called Hommassassa, we have a friend who lives there, that is also a fabulous place, the manatees are up there and the bird life is unbelievable, and then to top it all you can hire a boat and go out into the Gulf of Mexico.

I love Hommassassa, I wouldn't mind a place up there one day.
