Mission:SPACE is fantastic but..........

When we visited EPCOT on 1st May, it was my first encounter with the new attraction Mission:SPACE. Mindful of others' warning about motion sickness, I had taken a tablet an hour before. The queue was moderate and we got in easily with an FP after a 10 minute wait. I thought the ride itself was excellent, though I wished it was a bit longer.

What disappointed me though was the fact that the entire pavilion was the ride itself and little else. I felt Epcot should have dedicated the pavilion to Space Travel as such and made the ride a part of it, thus adding an educational elemet to the entertainent.

I know exactly what you mean Nostromo although I have to confess I thought the ride was so good it didn't really bother me at the time

OMG Mission Space was not for me. I am not a roller coaster person and I found Mission Space was much more intense than any roller coaster I went on. My head was so "fuzzy" when it ended that I left my bag in the capsule and good thing I noticed when browsing in the store upon exit and had to have the girl go search the ride to find it.

My 11 and 13 year old loved it!

We all went on it and I agree with the muzzy feeling comment, I probably wouldn't go on it again. Short wait though, at Easter it took 1.5hrs and we had got to the park at 8:30am, it took 30 mins just to get a fastpass for test track!

i thoroughly enjoyed mission space but i took my 5 year old boy on it, and when i realised how uncomfortable it was i made the big mistake of looking left to make sure he was ok. bad move. they tell you not to and i can see why , he was fine but i came off green and needing to sit down, if you dont believe me try it next time.

    ......Brilliant ride!!!!!

We had 4 FP tickets and my mum and eldest son didn't want to go on so myself and Paul went on twice straight after each other.
We couldn't stop laughing with excitement throughout

    Loved the launch bit[msneek][msneek]

At last, EPCOT has found something that will make me go back.

A fantastic ride that really does make you feel like you're taking off and flying through space (or at least how I'd imagine it to be).

On the other hand, Sue was distinctly unimpressed, or should I say green [xx(][xx(][xx(] ?

She helped herself to a sickbag (nice of Disney to provide them in the ride itself) but somehow managed to keep the contents of her stomach in the right place.

Know exactly what you mean, a brilliant ride but short on imagination for the potential long queues.

If you ever get to Las Vegas go see the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton, it's exactly what Mission:Space should be. The queue lines are part of the show with interactive displays and characters from the Star Trek Universe wandering in and out the lines chatting with the riders.

I agree totally, Neil. I HAVE been to the Star Trek Experience at the LV Hilton and agree that it is excellent. I particularly liked the walk through displays in the queue where real life space events merge seamlessly into futuristic fictional ones. Going through it, you really believe someone will invent 'Duotronic Computers' and 'Warp Drive'.

Therefore, you're right in saying that while Mission:SPACE scores high on thrills, it does fall short on imagination compared with something like Star Trek Experience.
