I was out last week in April and took about 30 mins to get through customs and the same for getting dollar car. You do have to take laptop out of case but otherwise checks weren't any different from in UK.

What exactly is the deal with the security scans and laptop checks at MCO after you have landed. I've never seen it at other US airports and to be frank if anyone had a weapon they would have already used it on the flight.
Also you can walk into US stores and get guns and hunting knives over the counter with very little documentation to it's hardly to stop people bringing weapons into the country.
All very odd and just adds to the time it takes to get out of the airport after a long flight [msnscared].
Can anyone explain why when you have booked a car months in advance that Dollar can have 200 people come off a flight to pick up their rental cars and have no cars to give out.
What happens in that situation?

I've never heard of that happen apart from very busy periods like Easter.

This is done at Atlanta when you arrive.
I know John last time we went it took longer being searched at MCO than it did at Manchester! Whats the point?

I know - red tape gone mad. The absolute last thing you want to see when you get off a long flight with tired, grouchy children [msnsad].

We found it very quick last year, but have heard so many stories about how it is taking
longer, so will have to wait to see.

I've often wondered this too? I figure it's gotta be something to do with how different sets of 'secured' passengers mix from different gates and terminals. The only thing I've ever come up with is that when you handle your checked-in baggage maybe this makes you 'grubby' again in terms of security. Maybe security checks on check-in bags are less strict and you could have stowed a weapon in the hold, reclaimed it when you touched your hold baggage (before giving it up again after clearing customs) and could then hand it off to a departing passenger. Hmmmm - maybe I should stop this train of thought before the CIA trace my IP address.
I suppose the thing is as much as it's a pain in the butt, at least they are trying to ensure
our safey, Im sure there are better ways, a bit of common sense.
