    sun cream

We are travelling 1st 2 weeks in August. What factors should we use as we don't want any of the 4 kids to burn. We have not been to America before, so don't know much about the climate. A couple of the kids are quite fair - and I burn terribly!!

There's a thread about this here

If you have small kids, whether they're fair or not, they should always have T-shirts on (even in the pool - use some old ones) and also neck protection such as a hat with an extension. Even it doesn't appear to be too sunny, always slap plenty of sun protection on everyone but please wash it off in the shower directly before you get into the pool!

There's nothing more miserable than getting sunburnt or, even worse, getting sunstroke, for ruining your holiday.

No-Ad is available at Asda for £2.58 at the moment for big bottles.
We have stocked up here with it.

Hi there. I high factor to begin with - especially at the water parks, you really catch it there. Buy hats - I can't stress this enough. I was ill with sunstroke one year, just from not wearing a hat. I hope you have a great time - you definitely will! [8D]

Must agree about the hats, one year while at Typhoon Lagoon it was very overcast all day and my daughter didn't think she needed to wear her hat, she was ill for the next couple of days with sunstroke, not funny.

Apply a few times a day. I see people put it on kids in the am and expect that to suffice for the day. The water resistant ones are good. Most hair salons do products for hair - worth using both on adults and children.

Afraid I'm a Ginger so I have to be careful. Another vote for No-Ad, cheap at Asda here and at Wal-Mart there. Very good sun-protection cream

They do a factor 45 and a factor 60 (liquid bandage or Tippex as we call it in our group). In terms of kids clothing we like the Boots sunsuits with UVA & UVB for our 2 and half year old they are very good and we had no issues with him and F45/60 on the uncovered bits last September.

As mentioned you can get burned on semi-cloudy days and also through clothing if it is light. My wife got burned on her chest (it sticks out somewhat[msnwink]) through a light shirt in 3 hours when we went to watch the Miami Dolphins play one year.

Another great product we found is burn-ice gel for sunburn, this looks like blue hair-gel in about a 1 litre Dettol shaped bottle.

It has to have a child resistant cap as it has lidocaine pain killer in the gel so it numbs, moisturizes and cools all at once. Fantastic stuff and is absorbed totally in about 5 minutes. We have had the Ocean Potion brand before.

Banana Boat also do an aloe vera (green) version with no Lidocaine for less bad burns we swear by these products and always bring bottles home when we are running out as it comes in handy in the UK too. The Blue and Green Goo as we call them can both be bought at Wal-Mart

    Hope this helps

    Mr E.
