Why is 192 such a dump (or is it?)

We had a great holiday and really like Florida but everytime I drove down 192 I thought what a dump! I know it's to cater for tourists but the whole strip is just a long line of tacky shops and hotels, neon signs, fast food outlets and crazy golf. Even most of the 'better' restaurants didn't look very appealing.

By contrast we had breakfast in a family diner in downtown Kissimmee, it was nice to vist somewhere with a bit of character, even if most of the shops seemed 20 years out of date. At least we got to walk around and chat to some locals instead of driving from one parking lot to another.

It a holiday place..it has holiday things......we have one small road here just like 192 and I love it in the summer.....it keeps the tourists away from the places we like to go......[}]

Heh heh heh, that made me laugh. Yeah, it's very tacky but I'd definitely prefer to be there compared to the King of all tacky resorts, Blackpool - bleugh! [xx(][xx(][xx(]

bet you didnt notice even on a TACKY road like the 192 the lack of litter and all the street lights work etc....

oh to be in blackpool stepping over the neddles....

I think the 192 has improved greatly recently. I love the bright colours!

I like the place too. You can drive up and park wherever you want to go without any hassle or driving round and round a car park looking for a space. There is a huge range of restaurants and shops and you can clearly see where everything is.
All the roads, pavements, car parks are CLEAN and well kept - no abandoned cars or overflowing bins.
One of the great things about Florida in general is how clean and welcoming it is.
Yes there are a lot of big signs and lights on the 192 but it is a tourist area and you'll see those kind of displays in any tourist area. But a dump? No way - in fact quite the opposite - the area along and around the 192 is great.

Which part of the 192 are you talking about? There is one part closer to the OBT (441) which is a little less desirable, but I generally find it always clean and tidy. Yes it is very OTT but it is a tourist area, no different to Ibiza, Spain, Tenerife etc!!!

The 192 is exactly what we would expect, its a great place to find restaurants and we always have a game of crazy golf! It may be a little on the tacky side but as posted above its clean and the weather far out strips anything here, so what the heck.
