The 192 is great. If you thought that was a dump you had better not go up Internatiional Drive, now that is a dump.

Interestingly, according to the US192 "Beautifcation Project", their aim is to make it as "good" as International Drive, which is a much more profitable area, especially for the hotel and motel owners.

If you want tacky try any one from :

    San Antonio in Ibiza
    Kavos in Corfu
    Playas Las Americas in Tenerife
    Magaluf in Majorca

Compared to these it is the Ritz.
Personally I like I-Drive and the 192 for what they are, places where people go to eat, shop and enjoy the different culture than you have at home (for that reason I don't like the English themed spots I admit).
I'm sure it is a sterotype but big signs, cheap all you can eat buffets, $1 T-shirt stores etc.. are what the USA is about. I know the US isn't all about that but that is the sterotype and a sterotype usually comes about because of some actual truths otherwise a sterotype would not exist (does that make sense, I dunno).

Must take umbridge with you about San Antonio, Ibiza.

My second favourite holiday destination after Florida.

It is nothing like the way it is portrayed and has had a lot of money invested in cleaning it up and making it a pleasent place to spend a very relaxing holiday.

Kids love the shops and all the signs. The resturants are full. Its holidays! Not my taste but pleases thousands every week. If the traffic moves I'm not concerned.

That's the great thing about the Orlando area that we love though, it doesn't matter what sort of mood you are in, whether it's a day for relaxing and you just want to wander around the gift shops, crazy golf etc or you want to dress up and go fine dining , or a quiet day in on of the State parks, there is something to suit everyone within a relatively short distance, and thats without the theme parks.
Personally it was one of the factors that made us want to buy there as we could see there would be something for all of us for a long time to come.

Actually I suppose I should have narrowed it down to the West End strip. Like you, it just so happens that my European destination is normally San Antonio Bay, up around the coast near Port Des Torrent. Ibiza does get bad press because of the minority but is a fantastically pretty island.
