We will be in orlando 6-20th May for our first holiday there. Do we need to take very lightweight waterproof jackets with us or can you buy them in the parks OK , are they cheap and easily available. Thanks

Hi, we went there that time 2 years ago, you can easily buy the poncho type waterproofs in the park or easier and cheeper in many of the shops on Idrive (around $5), you only need light weight jackets as so hot, and to be honest we found it a relief when it did rain as cooled us down.
We were there in October. We didn't take any jackets, when it rained waterproof cloaks suddenly appeared all over the place, at lots of kiosks. We didn't find them expensive at all, only problem is everybody looks the same (I always know what colour the kids are dressed in for locating them easily!) and they are very hot.
Lots of people didn't bother with anything as they dried so quickly after the shower.
Have a great time.
You can get rain ponchos quite cheaply (a few $s each) in Wal-Mart but if you want one with a character on it, you'll need to pay a bit extra and get one in the parks. These cover you much more than a jacket would and are a bit of fun at the same time!
You'll be pleased to hear that it normally doesn't rain that much in May (and I hope it's the same this year as that's when we're going!) so you may not need them anyway.
blott
You can actually get the disposable ones in Wal-mart in the camping department for 99 cents each.

We only ever take the ponchos to Florida. Fleeces usually suffice in the evenings or on a chillier day and the ponchos do a good job when you are out in a shower![]()

We bought ponchos in Disney in June 2002.
We'd always enjoyed the rain (we agree with Chrisj that "its nice to get wet when its hot") but when it rained for virtually the full 2 week holiday, we were running out of dry clothes to put on.
I think that they were about $6 each, and they make a nice souvenier that, hopefully, wont be needed again !

We took ours and used them on the water rides, but it would have been just as easy to buy ponchos.
We purchased some very cheaply at Wal Mart and they have lasted us a few years now.
They are great for the water rides and for when you get cuaght in a sharp shower.
I have to say the wife does look very fetching walking to dinner in her posh dress and in high heels, wearing a bright yellow bin bag !!![)][

I am sure I'll pay for that comment later![]()
