    pound/dollar

Does anybody Know a good (commission free)method of changing pounds into dollars, not using the tourist rate, but the business rate....I am getting a few barriers at this end that are confusing to say the least.....I will need to change a substantial amount quite soon to apply for my E2 visa application...any pointers would be most welcome.....

I use moneycorp. You have to set up an account(by fax) then make a phone call and change any amount. You get a good rate.Moneycorp take £15 fee whatever the amount. I used them to send over my initial Purchase deposit and have since sent over smaller amounts. I find them OK. I understand there is also a company called XE Who are also regularly recommended on here.

I opened an account with HSBC bank. It cost £35 every 6 month but you can then transfer money from your current account to the foreign currency account and visa versa. You get the business rate all the time. You can then wire money out the US as and when you want. You also get a US$ cheque book but you are charged £1.50 for every cheque you write. I have only had it a few weeks now but it seem to work fine for me.

Similar to pieman6 we transfer money from our UK account to our US account and obtain the business rate. We then us the US account whilst in Florida, instead of travellers cheques. Worked fine last time we were in Florida, and the charge for the transfer was only about £15. The money arrived in our US account 2 working days later.

Been very happy with XE.COM.....especially as they deposited an extra $13500 in my account this week and I have no idea where it is from even though they are insisting I sent it from my UK account. So sign up and watch the money role in
