Whilst I can see all the advantages of a Villa for a family or a large number of guests, as there is only the 2 of us a Hotel is better and cheaper.

We stay on I Drive and can pretty much walk to all our favorite places, so no worry's regarding drink driving

Also the maid service means we don't have to tidy up much

I short I think it comes down to your own set of circumstances and how many are in your group.

I'd say villa but I do miss talking to the other guests in the hotel bars - you get to meet some really nice people. But you won't be disappointed with the villa.

I've stayed in three hotels in the Orlando area - the first one was grotty but it was our first visit so fortunately we were able to go out all the time as we thought it was our only visit and wanted to pack everything in; the second had karoake right outside our window every night until 11.30 pm and hoardes of South American schoolkids staying who were everywhere; the third was OK.

Hotels are OK for a few nights but the things that gets me down are the shortage of space (there's nowhere to walk in their rooms!), that walk down the corridors, lifts, etc fully dressed with a swimsuit underneath clutching everything you need to visit the pool and the same in reverse when you're dripping wet, having to pay top rate for every drink or snack you want to have, having to be out every morning so that the maid can get into the room, having a huge walk to get from the entrance to your room...

From one of my guest comments from a couple with three kids: It was like home from home but with the added bonus of being by the pool and enjoying Florida. I would not consider spending my time in a hotel after seeing the difference of staying in a villa. The privacy, space and security all adds to it. I think that just about sums it up!

Have done both over the past 11 years and I would say there is no contest, a villa wins hands down. The space, convienience & facilities to name but a few.

We've stayed in hotels and a villa and much prefer the villa.

You get all of the comforts of home and more.....in fact, when we came home last time, Sue decided that we had to have a dishwasher as the one in the villa was so good !!!

We usually spend the first 7 nights travelling around and staying in hotels, and then 7 nights in a villa in Kissimmee, I enjoy the hotels but love the Villas, but my son enjoyed the hotels more because he gets to meet people in the pool at hotels, but in the villa he's stuck with just us!

Lyn does have a point I overlooked. Our property does not have a private pool and is for that reason that we bought it. We like to meet people and the pool is the ideal place to do it. We have made so many friends over the past 3 years (both for the US and the UK) it is now a key part of our holiday.

Taking what Lyn said into account you may have to decide, if you go for a villa, what your family situation is and whether you should go for a villa with it's own pool on one with community pools and facilities.

Paul why compromise why not go for a villa with both a private pool and access to a community pool, then you can decide on wether to enjoy a quite dip with just the family or a get together with other families around the community pool. I prefer the private pool as it has no opening and closing times and if I want to swim at six in the morning or at midnight... I can.

Yes Julie I agree about being able to go in your own pool at any time, a couple of years ago when where staying in a hotel in Kissimmee, by the time we got back from the parks the pool was closed, this was less fun for my son than going in a villa pool with only mum for company (dad never goes in the pool, he says he's allergic to chlorine.

Trouble is Julie I have two ex-county swimmers and two strokes of a private pool and they would be across it. The pools on our complex are open from 9am to 10pm which is miles long enough for us and I am in bed before midnight and don't get up until after 8.

At the end of the day it is all personal taste. We have a pool within a minutes walking distance of our place although we normally go one of the ones by the clubhouse. By doing that we can play Tennis, Volleyball, play a game of pool in the pool room, go to the gym or whatever.
