ideas for 11 yr olds birthday in orlando

Right, my son's 11th birthday falls on the 6th June when we are in orlando, any ideas for making it a special day, money (within reason) no problem. Magical Kingdom have to be a no go that day as is Gay Day venue then so would imagine being packed out

Depends if he is into thrill rodes or not. If he likes the big rides then Islands of Adventure, if not and he loves marine life then Sea World which also has a few rides. If he is a space person then it would have to be Kenedey Space Centre. Not much help really but as I say it depends on his favourite thing to do.[msnsmile]

Discovery Cove would be really good, something special to remember. You may need to get a wriggle on with booking it though as people book in advance. It would really be a day to remember.[msnsmile]

If you can't get in at Discovery Cove then you could try for the Adventure day which is offered at Seaworld. In fact there are several other possibilities there eg the meal with Shamu or the restaurant with shark viewing. Discovery Cove is a great idea though if you can get in.

I agree that Discovery Cove would be ideal. But if he does not fancy a Dolphin swim, why not a day of 'Watersports Adventure'? This includes waterski, parasailing, scooters etc. There are two reliable venues; Dave's Ski School at Lake Bryan and Sammy Duvall's Watersports based at the Contemporary Resort.

If you are going to surprise him instead of getting his input, I can say that currently having a 13 yr old boy who was once 11, and having an 11 yr old girl now, and my husband having experienced a hot air balloon ride on a business weekend once, I would vote for the hot air balloon ride. I was in Orlando last Saturday morning at 8 a.m., my last day there (when I should have been packing for that 1 p.m. plane ride home), on my last swim alone in the pool at the house out west in Greater Groves, and I looked up from my swim and lo and behold, there were hot air balloons everywhere across the sky above the pool!! Just lovely and so graceful; I counted 8 of them total. My husband said it was a real event that he still recalls to board the balloon and bob up and down, closer to the ground and further away, so quiet early in the morning (which is the preferred time while it is still quiet with the winds). I guess they embark from that west side of town, out past 27. That would be a memorable birthday event for my kids, who are so used to the other thrilling stuff in Orlando.
