Leg Room

I have noticed a few people on here have mentioned asking for extra leg room and have mentioned Bulk Head seats as opposed to Emergency Exit seats.

What is the difference between the 2?

Also, i was under the impression that charter airlines such as Britannia, Thomas Cook and MyTravel sold the extra leg room seats at a premium cost so they would not therefore be available at check in no matter how early you get there.

As far as I know all other Airlines now charge for these seats as well, at check in last
year Vrigin charged a couple in front of us £50, wasnt sure if that was each or for both.

Bulkhead seats are where the cabin ends, IE: end of cattle class and start of buisiness
etc

Emergency seats are those by the energency doors, therefore the room between the seats
is very wide

I noticed a reply from someone last week regarding BA keeping bulkhead seats for mothers travelling with infants.

Mt wife and i are travelling with our 13 month old daughter who obviously does not have her own seat.

Does this mean that we may perhaps get bulkhead seats?
We are travelling with Thomas Cook airlines.

Most airlines hold back bulkhead seats for mums and babes as this is where the sky cot or child seat is secured, have you requested one? If not I recommend that you do.

Im not sure, would only suggest you get there early and ask, we were given bulkhead seats
once, but then again I had my leg in plaster and think they felt sorry for me hobbling
my way to the check in desk

The seats directly behind the bulkhead are usually reserved for mothers and infants. They have some extra legroom. But the seat rows on either side of these (and maybe a bit to the front) have no rows immediatly ahead of them and are not usually reserved for anyone, unless as a special request for a disabled person etc. They are sometimes, but not always next to an emergency exit... more often NOT. But, as I mentioned earlier, there is masses of legroom even for the tallest person. The downside, if so percieved, is that these seats have poor or no views of the movie screen. In the last 10 years, I have tried and nearly always succeeded in getting these seats for my elderly in-laws whenever they travel, with BA, Air-India, Virgin, Continental etc. The last time was with BA to NY and Chicago in February 2003. All we had to do was request it at the time of booking and be sure to turn-up at least 3 hours before the flight. I have never been asked to pay extra for this.
