    Ice Hockey Gear...

    Specifically Goalkeeping stuff.

Whilst visiting the US (Miami/Orlando) I'm planning on getting myself a new goalkeeping helmet/mask. Even declaring it to customs on my return I'll be saving significant amounts over a UK purchase or importing and paying postage etc.

Thing is, do 'Floridians' even know what Ice hockey is [msnwink] I know it's mainly a baseball/football state. Where's the best place to look for kit?

    Any help greatfully received...

Hi Gareth, I noticed goalie masks for sale at St Pete Times Forum (where Tampa Bay Lightning play) when we were there at the end of March. Not sure how much they were but they were smart!

If you are into hockey (like me!) try and take in a Lightning game. Also, Florida Panthers who are based in Miami or even Orlando Seals (TD Waterhouse Centre, Orlando). The Seals have a couple of players/coach who played in the UK.

The NHL is huge all over America ~ even in Florida [msnwink]

You could check out Dominator Sports on the Hway 192 west of Disney, as they seem to carry most types of equipment and most huge stores such a Sears have sports departments.

I'm not sure when the NHL season starts, but we have seen some amazing games at the TD Waterhouse Center in Orlando ~ you should check it out while you are over.

    Rub

I think Dominator Sports is still around, but it has moved location slightly further down the 192 towards Disney, from where it was originally.

    Hi Gareth
the best place will be Sports Authority - Sports Dominator is good, but more geared towards tourists. There's a really good Sports Authority opposite the Florida Mall, I picked up some good stuff for our Hockey themed villa there in February Also, check out Field of Dreams for some pretty cool memorabilia, I was tempted by a signed Patrick Roy signed picture - that place could seriously bankrupt me
If Tampa get through the next round you may be lucky and get to see them in the playoff semi's - I'd highly recommend it, the atmosphere at the NHL playoffs can't be beat [8D].
Regarding the Seals - I'm afraid their season is over [msnsad]

Sports authority has everything and I do believe they have a arena to play hockey in Orlando but not sure on the location.

    Many thanks all.

I would love to see an NHL game - I have watched on TV and seen the Cardiff Devils and Nottingham Panthers play live in the UK but it's a different game!

Sports Authority sounds good and opposite the Florida Mall! I can leave the girlfriend to wander whilst I spend half a day looking at stuff!

carps, where abouts is 'Field of Dreams'? I'm looking for some nice stuff to finish off my home office and already have some signed photo's etc. of various sports stars/musicians and it's becomming a bit of a theme...
