    Autoroute for the USA

Does anyone know where we can get a version of Autoroute for the US. When we tried on the Microsoft site, it just kept offering us the UK & Europe. We would like to be able to buy one over the internet.

Auto route is called streets and trips in the US but is not very good

What I suggest you get is a garmin street pilot 3
Ok not very good to use over here but if you are in the states a lot you will find it invaluable
You can pick them up for around $500 in most electronic stores in Florida I use mine all the time as we like to tour the state and its never got me lost once un like streets and maps which was terrible

The down side to the is you will need to take a lap tap to load the different maps on to the smart media if you don’t buy the addition smart media

But if you still prefer the auto route idea the try here http://www.microsoft.com/Streets/default.asp

I tried to get the microsoft US equivalent of Autoroute, but I bought rand mcnally streetfinder & trip maker instead. I can't remember where I got it from now, but it was definatley via the internet. Might have been amazon.

You can get the Rand/McNally Streetfinder at any store that sells software, such as Best Buy, Circuit City, or office supply places such as Staples or Office Max.

Why not rent a car from Hertz with their navigation system or try to rent a portable car navigation system.

My husband just bought a program for his PDA. It links up with a satellite and shows where he is at all times. It tells him what his projected arrival time is depending on how fast he is driving (usually too fast). It even talks to him and tells him when to make a turn! He says he has now replaced me as his navigator. [}]

[/quote]We purchased the "DeLorme Street Atlas 2004" software for use on our laptop while we were in Florida which came with a GPS receiver and was only $150 from CompUSA. The Hertz NeverLost system is based on this DeLorme software so we knew we were getting a good deal. It can be voice activated and gives vocal instructions to your trip, which is essential if you're travelling alone. We found it very easy to use and the GPS receiver obviously works worldwide so we can use our European mapping software with it.

We did have MSN's Streets and Trips but found it much harder to use, it didn't give vocal commands although it did find some addresses that the DeLorme system could not. Not a system that I would recommend using "on the go".

Unfortunately, I haven't seen this this software available for purchase from UK but if you can wait until you get to the US and your nearest CompUSA, CircuitCity etc. you should get a good deal. You'll have no problem finding these stores, they're EVERYWHERE!!

    Hi,

The equivalent of autoroute in the USA is called Mappoint 2004 - very good, much better then the aforementioned streets & trips.
