Portable DVD player on US Airways/American Airline

We have just bought one of the small portable DVD player to use on Holiday. We are wanting to use it on board our flights this year with US Airways and American Airlines, but dont know if you are allowed to use them. It does not transmit TV picture just plays DVD's and CD via a LCD screen.
Thanks in advance for any replies

I *think* they should be ok. I know Virgin carry a stock of these on board for use by passengers on request.

We bought one for our daughter for Christmas 2002 and we have used it on every trip to or from the States since then (with Virgin). We follow normal procedure and only use it when the entertainment system is going.

My son has one and takes it on all flights with him. Keeps him amused for hours.

You should be fine but worth a phone call to the airline.

We normally use our laptops to watch DVDs and never had a problem either.

If you are going on US Airways they have the very modern inflight entertainment systems on them. Loads and films which you can pause, fast forward and rewind.
