    Dollar rate

Does anyone have any thoughts on which way the dollar is going to go over the next couple of weeks. We are going to Orlando in early May. Not sure if I should hang on or order them now.

Order some now and some later and then you hedge your bets as it is a guessing game

Up and down at the moment. I am buying a villa at the moment and exchanged at $1.85 on wednesday. It was $1.79 last week and today it has dropped to $1.82 !

Dont forget that xe.com gives the business rate NOT the tourist rate, which tends to be a bit lower.

The rate has dropped from the heady days of around $1.85 ( Tourist Rate ).

At the moment it seems to be around the mid $1.70's on Friday last week it was $1.77.

It is difficult to predict at the moment which way it will go, the underlying trend still seems to be that it will "weaken" over the coming 6 months or so, thus giving us a better rate against the pound.

But in the short term, I would say buy "little and often" taking advantage of good and not so good days.

Marks & Spencers / Nationwide and the Post Office are good places to exchange Holiday Money as they give good rates and also don't charge commission.

Also try and get a Credit Card, like the Nationwide offer, that doesn't charge you commision for purchases abroad, this can make a big difference on the overall budget.

I didn't realise (until this year as we've never had one before) that Mastercard actually gives you the rate quoted on xe.com.

In the past, I've always been disappointed that Visa has applied an exchange rate somewhat below the high street's lowest and added a fee for doing so. [msnsad]

Mastercard is now the holiday credit card of choice in the Wooder-Jones houeshold [msnsmile2]
