    JET LAG AGAIN

Just wondering how people deal with the jetlag and more so the time difference when they arrive in Florida. Firstly hubby makes me change my watch to US time as soon as we get on the plane! We normally land about 1600hrs and my hubby 'persuades' me to stay up to 2100hrs local time which is 3 am where we live and I am practically dead on my feet by then. To be fair to him it does make a difference the next day, although our first day is usually an adminy day!! Dont care at the other end when we come home!

Have just found the old threads and there is no miracle cure[V]!

There's a thread about this at http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums...TOPIC_ID=10404 where you'll find all sorts of remedies (personally I recommend Melatonin) as well as a link to an even bigger previous thread!

Thanks Blott, will check that out must have missed that thread! I used to use Melatolin when working nights. My workmates used to ask me to bring it back for them. Is it available over the counter in UK yet?

Melatonin works well with Jet Lag, but we have also tried the trick of staying awake till about 10pm on the day of arrival. It seems shattering at the time, but it ususally works. Our relatives from India tried the same thing when they arrived in the UK and it worked for them too.

Do you need to take melatonin for a couple of days before and after the return journey?
Anyone had any side effects from it?
How much is it in the US?

    Sorry so many questions...

From memory it is not hugely expensive, someone on here will know, I last bought some about 4 years ago and it was about a fiver. Think it is supposed to keep you awake.....no been told it is to sleep, so in my opinion, you should only take it when you need to sleep as it will mess up your sleep patterns if you take it more.

I worked nights and everyone used to take proplus to stay awake and must have taken Melatonin to sleep in the morning. I was warned about side effects before I bought it....in Walamrt. I did not take it again once it ran out, hence the muddled brain on the subject!

Best to stay up as late as possible outbound 10pm or later.
This worked great for us this year as we both stayed up and our 13 month old also woke up when we got off the plane and stayed awake for a couple of more hours. This meant that she slept through till 6 o clock the next day and not 2 or 3 as we were expecting.

On the return home, try and get as much sleep as possible on the plane and then stay up when you get home.
DO NOT GOT TO BED ON YOUR RETURN TO THE UK UNTIL AS LATE IN THE EVENING AS POSSIBLE.RESIST THE TEMPTATION TO SLEEP THROUGH THE DAY OF YOUR RETURN.

This will help you get back in your routine quicker.

Couldn't manage it for our baby however, she had a long daytime sleep and then was wide awake till 1 o clock in the morning on the next night!
