Excuse me for being thick here, is it individual goods that are £145 or more or accumulated goods that come to £145 or more?
Don.
Each individual person can bring into the UK £145 in accumulated goods but, if the individual goods go over the £145 limit (ie you buy one item for, say, £160) the value can't be shared with other members of the party and then payment is due on the entire value, not just the £15 over the limit.

Anyone should go through the red channel if they have goods that are more than £145 worth and be prepared to pay the costs. If they are minimal we have found they are often waived. Any law abiding citizen has nothing to fear. Whilst we might all feel a little irritated with the laws do not blame the enforcers, and don't for a minute think they aren't watching you, they can usually spot someone "sus" in 2 seconds flat - actually make that 1!!
Strange then, that almost all of the law abiding citizens on the Virgin and BA Flights returning from Orlando seem to walk through the Green Channel, usually unchallenged. Perhaps they did not really do a lot of shopping.[V][V]

Not all the time!!
Most of us buy trainers, clothes, Disney novelties etc which if you don't go over the top and declare any extras is OK, and they seem to be able to spot the bad guys.
Best to go through the red if in any doubt!

Thanks, Julie. To tell you the truth, I tend to declare everything myself, including the times when the customs seem to have 'missed' Amazon goods arriving by mail from the USA. But it is certainly true that both at Heathrow and Gatwick (and probably elsewhere) a lot of passengers arriving here from 'shoppable' destinations like the USA, Far East etc seem to go through the Green Channel claiming nothing to declare. I realise that one cannot sit in judgement, but one can wonder.

They have got a lot hotter on Amazon deliveries from the US too. Nothing seems to get missed now!

Hi
As you may be aware the USA and particularly Florida is a main transit point for S.American Cocaine on it`s way to western Europe.
I think Customs might just be looking for that type of courier not someone who has £180 worth of gifts[msnwink]
As you have no doubt read "intelligence" is an important factor
not "cold pulls" of people who appear nervious.
Most people guilty and innocent look nervious when a law enforcement officer is looking at them.
When you see a police car don`t we all slow down even if we are not breaking the speed limit.I know I do.
Have a nice day,I have to go ... to Philadelphia in the morning
now wasn`t that a book or film[?]

Rumours of a new ride in Orlando where you ride your shopping trolley through Walmart, Belz, Mall at the Millenia etc collecting $000's of booty before the death defying final duel against HM Customs.
They could call it The Green Channel.[msncool]
Now that really would be a tense thrill ride![msneek]
Methinks Mr Fibble may protest too much, play fair everyone!!
