I think if you are prone to being bitten then you will be. DH is never bitten (is it the cigar smoke I wonder??) but the gals and I are - to death. We all take antihistamine on prescription during our sojourns in the summer, and I have found benadryl very effective as well (buy that over the counter in chemists in US). Do always use protective spray particularly if you are near water. I have found we suffer far worse on the "nature trails" type expedition than anything else. Worst bites EVER were on Cabbage Key Island on the Gulf Coast. I carry a small wipe on spray for use in the early evening at the parks when we seem to start being bitten. And I would expect to be eaten alive on an airboat ride Karen (so perhaps trainers and socks might protect the feet - every little helps).

Blottie, you go the times of the year when there arnt many. December, April/May etc. July/Aug- aghh I get bit and I live in Celebration where they spray the trees nightly!! But I do believe some people get bitten and others dont. Terry doesnt get bitten much and me and Matt do. As I am allergic to it and react badlym I guess I also notice them more.

You must be one of the lucky ones who they dont like then, It is a fact that they dont bite some people. Wish I was one!! My legs will be covered in August and the odd one swollen up like a ball!! It also depends if you go out much at night as they dont bite in the day. Remember we dont have pool screening here as we dont have a pool so if we sit out at all at night, even on the front porch, we are "OUT". Celebration is the less mossiest place after Disney as they s[ray everywhere nightly but they still manage to find me.

    Hi

We are going out to our new villa 19th July - 9th August on Crescent Lakes, during this visit we are planning to go to the Everglades and the Keys for a few days, is it very likely to get bitten on an airboat ride in the everglades ?

Hi, yes, the Everglades and the Keys are generally more humid than Orlando, although in July it rpobably doesnt make that much difference. Point is, the mossies will be out in force, I was in the Keys 3 weeks ago and they were there in their thousands. They didn't bother me, they dont seem to like gin & tonic drinkers so try that for a cure
