Hi
We want to rent a car for about 4 to 5 weeks, does anyone know a cheaper way of doing it than paying the weekly rent at the usual hire companies? Has anyone bought a car out in FL for use when the're out there?
Regards
Gromit

Whilst it's easy to purchase a car, it's not so easy to get it insured! Driving licences too, are now only issued for the length of your visa and you have to reapply for one each time you return. As a Florida driving licence is a pre-requisite of getting insured, if this has expired, presumably your insurance lapses as well.
We go to Florida for 4 - 5 weeks at a time and it's a lot less hassle getting a rental car and not that expensive if you use this site's car rental.

Hi Gromit,
I spent an afternoon last week obtaining car hire quotes.
The best prices by far were from www.uscarhire.co.uk

There is not really much in it Rob - they are a couple of Pounds cheaper than us for some car sizes and a couple of Pounds more expensive than us for others. I cannot see wahat company they use for the cars as it does not say.
Our Dollar rentals include an extra driver for free in the Fully Inclusive option - their car hire does not appear to do this. We find this is a very popular option as it enables people to share the driving at no extra cost [msnsmile].

I agree totally.
floridahire.com are very competative and theres also big confidence factor as it's supported by you guy's. I have looked around and if there's little in it, I would support this sites choice.

Hi all
Thanks for the advice, we'll give the hire companies a call. It's a shame rent-a-wreck got so commercial!

sorry but maybe I'm doing something wrong..
I checked on Hertz website to book a car for 2 weeks from 9th Aug and I have been quoted £258 unlimited mileage and damage waiver, the only thing I can add to the quotation is a personal insurance for £3.58 a day.., the same period on Floridahire was quoted at £326 ...
where's the catch??
Hi
I have just had a look on Hertz and it is £258 for a 2/4 door ecomony car. On this site for the same it is £258 and this includes
Fully Inclusive Option
Rental with unlimited mileage
Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) up to $1M cover
Uninsured Motorist Protection (UMP)
All taxes and airport fees
One free additional driver (Dollar)
Only one driver (Alamo)
Also Hertz are not on site whereas Dollar is!
