We would have thought that £2000 for three weeks would be plenty, we are a family group of 2 Adults and 2 Shildren, well they are over 10 so are usually classed as adults in restaurants etc... We usually take about £1500 for two weeks and usually have more than enough, the boys take their own saved spending money for souvenirs etc..[msnsmile2]

Emily is 13, but she never eats much and last year we always got her a kids discount, might
be that we always asked. My mum (67) always got a senior discount. So it was only me and wifey
who were charged the adult price.

In quite a few places the kids even shared a kids meal, the portions were big enough

Not only can you plate share with kids, but you can also just have starters to share in many places, if you don't want the main course. There are a number of restaurants where we don't bother with a main course, but just buy several starters and share them, because not only are they delicious but they are huge. Race Rock on International Drive is one of these places where we've never had a main course - we enjoy the starters way too much!!

PS: If you go to Race Rock, save your quarters so that you and the kids can use the motorbikes etc. We go towards the end of a vacation when we've collected a fair amount of change, and let the kids blow it all on the bikes and other simulators!!

I agree with you, we often have just a starter at Race Rock, their deep fried Onion is great

Also they are the only place that does a Strawberry Milk Shake to my wifes liking.

They know us really well now and start making it as soon as we walk down the ramp to the bar.

I just stick with a large glass of cold beer.

Looking forward to seeing Jon and the other Guys at Race Rock when we are next over in April.

Of course it does depend on what you are going do (lots of shopping?)

We normally take about £1000 of dollars and use the credit card for most things, we find that easier. You can use your credit card for meals out, supermarket and things like that and cash for smaller things. When we went last year the kids (20 & 17) spent £500 of clothes, golf clubs and bits so a credit card is, I would say, an essential.

We always work on £100 per day and it usually works out about right over the length of the holiday so I reckon you should be okay for 3 weeks.

    Hi,

We always go for 3 or 4 weeks with 2 adults and children aged 2, 6, 14, 19 and 20.

We allow £1000 per week, we always have left overs even after buying a few large items and some clothes and trainers each.

We don't change dollars back just put it away for next time!!!

Hope you have a great time!!!

If you already have accommodation, flights and park tickets, you seem to have taken care of most expenses. How much money you need will depend of what type of eating out you want to do. There are plenty of cheap family eating diners which usually advertise in local fee advertising brochures. I usually collect all the coupons when we first get there and cut them out. I keep them in my purse incase we decide to eat at one of them. Some give you a percentage off and some offer free meals for kids. Don't eat at the parks because they charge a lot more unless you want to for the experience. We usually eat breakfast at our villa. We have a good cooked meal of something like bacon, sausage, beans and eggs etc which will keep you going until the evening. This way we can get to the parks early to miss the lines. The idea of bring bottles of water is a good one. Most of the parks have water taps to drink at but you never see one when you most need it. However, when we do see one we top up our bottles. They are very useful when standing in line.

The other thing you will do is spend money on shopping. If you come from the UK the dollar is very low at the moment and things are cheaper in the US anyway. We always bring an extra suitcase or end up buying a cheap new one to put all the extra things we have bought in. So dont bring too many clothes or shoes/trainers if you intend buying any out there. Also books are very cheap and I always end up spending a fortune in Books A Million.

    Have a great holiday.

Why do people 1)convert lots of currency and 2) use travellers cheques.
because the exchange rate and commissions are a rip off?

We always take minimum cash and then draw cash on debit cards - best exchange you can get.
