AA - AAA collateral cover

I have often heard that full AA members can get breakdown cover from the AAA in the US, but having never broken down there I have not so far had the occasion to test this fact (if it IS a fact). This time though, I'll be going with a group of 7 and driving an 8-seater minivan and so I want to be sure. When I checked with the AA, they were oddly elusive, saying that all I had to do was to take my AA card and 'everything would be all right'. Somehow, it did not sound very convincing and I wondered if any of the other members have tried to use thier AA card successfully in the USA.

You shouldn't need it anyway Nostromo, the hire car company should give you details of who to contact if you breakdown, some have AAA cover but it may not be them and you will need to follow their instruction.
