I got a quote for BA flights from charter travel yesterday. They said that they could not sell me these if I did not take out car hire with them.

They did however quote me the same as on the link to car hire.

I was told that this was with all insurance included, not sure if I can believe this now though!

We too have booked out flights through Charter Travel and were advised that the flights at those prices we had to take the car hire though them also. However, their price for car hire is rather high so I mentioned I could get the same cover cheaper elsewhere (through this site!) and they matched the price (saving £120). It is the same (Gold) cover - full insurance and additional drivers

    Hi Guys
I have done a conciderable amount of homework on Car Hire in Orlando
This is not a plug for the car hire on this site at the top of this page
But believe it or not, you will be hard pushed to find one cheaper with no hidden extra's
I have tried other sites using Dollar rental claiming to be "Cheapestin U.S."
NOT TRUE!!!CANNOT COMPARE TO ABOVE SITE
If you are thinking I maybe on commission for plugging the site above again NOT TRUE
it's a fact after many weeks of looking for the best price with no hidden charges,
NOTHING COMPARES also check out travel insurance I could'nt get a better deal and I did try many sites beforehand but there again that's only my opinion[msnwink][msnwink]

what annoys me is that most of the advice is to use the links at the top of the page for everything as the prices are most always the best but when we do we get misled by them! John has stated earlier that " I don't know - we do not pass car hire enquiries to Charter so they must have done that off their own backs. They should not be selling car hire to people we refer to them for flights." and yet it would seem from everyone who has posted here that this is exactly what is happening!!

What I'd like to know is if I can get out of the car hire arrangemetn I have made with charter travel and book thro the link at the top of the page!

This is exactly how I intended to book my car hire before charter told me I had to take it with them!!

Where do I go from here??

We were advised that we had to take the car hire to get the flights at a reasonable price. I certainly wouldn't have paid the car hire price that Charter were initally asking. It might be worth you ringing them re the price you have paid for car hire as like I mentioned above they matched the price I got from the link above (I just told them how much less I could get it for and they didn't ask for any proof). Good luck.

I don't think I'm misleading anyone. The quote you made was something I said quite a while ago and well before Charter clarified the fact that the airlines insist that some fares have to be seen to be sold as a package.

It's by no means every fare they have that has to have car hire included so it's worth asking the questions of them.

The main point I was trying to make with the quote you included was that Charter will not try and sell car hire to people we refer to them for flights unless the airline insists that the fare they are offering has to be sold as a "package".

    Sorry Elaine
It was not my intentions to annoy you
I was just stating facts after the research I had done[msnmad]
YES I DID USE THE ABOVE LINK FOR MY CAR HIRE, YES I DID USE THE LINK ABOVE FOR MY TRAVEL INSURANCE,[^]
BUT I DID'NT BOOK MY FLIGHTS WITH THE ABOVE LINK, BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT OFFER ME THE BEST DEAL FOR THE PERIOD I WANTED.
I do not intend to mislead anyone the whole purpose of this forum is to exchange ideas and experiences good or bad in the hope that someone will gain

I didn't mean anything I said to be personal, I've taken it up with Charter Travel.

    Elaine,
We booked our flights and compulsory car hire thru charter over the phone. At the time the car hire price was identical and included exactly the same insurance levels as the one on this site and we assumed that the car hire was thru the link on this site.

<blockquote id="quote" class="ffs">quote:Also we have had a few friends come back from Orlando this summer and they were asked to pay additional costs for insurance when they picked up their car, even although they had paid everything (or so they thought) up front before they left teh UK. Will we be asked to pay any other fees, if so are they necessary?

Many clerks on the car rental desks try to sell you additional insurance for items that are covered under your normal holiday insurance - medical - stolen items etc.
