    Fly drive or book separate

    Hi

We've just been looking to book our flights for January and not sure what option to take. Flights with BA & Virgin seem to be pretty much the same at around £1100 for the 2 of us. Car hire as we know is quite high at the moment and we are getting quotes of around £1200-£1400.

Thought I would look at Fly Drive but not sure if the insurance cover is enough as the prices are much cheaper. Virgin Fly Drive quotes £1300+ but when you add the enhanced insurance option it's another £900 on top. However, BA are offering a Fly Drive option at £1791 with no extra insurance options so wondering if we are fully covered and it's a great price or will we find we don't have enough cover?

    Any thoughts?

    thanks
    Linda

Have used a BA fly drive before and if you are members of BA Avios scheme then you normally get an additional driver included with Avis. If you then sign up to Avis then you can also go straight to the garage. We have always found the insurance is fine.

However, the car hire link at the top of this site is both competitive and offers a great service with differing insurance options to match your requirements. Lots of us all book through here especially as if you have any queries they are very efficient at resolving them as happened to us in Las Vegas.

Firstly, I echo the remarks about car hire through this site. The big plus of BA fly drives is that you can secure the whole package with a small deposit whereas booking separately requires full payment for the flights upfront. Even more handy these days when things are so uncertain.

If you book a fly drive it constitutes a holiday and as such is covered by ABTA. We had booked a fly drive with BA in 2019 and when others were having problems with airlines etc getting a refund at the start of the pandemic our costs were returned to us without query in only a few days of us being notified of the cancellation.

Thanks for the info Jill & Katy's grandad. I usually do book car hire through this site but was surprised by the price for the fly drive.
