    Help please, licence questions.

I go on holiday 23rd October.
Unfortunately I got caught speeding last night and I've been issued a fixed penalty. The police have taken my Licence and said it would be returned after the fine is paid (£100).
The penalty notice says it could take up to 6 weeks.........ahhhhhhhhhh

Has anyone else experienced this, if so how long did it take for the licence to come back?

What happens if my Licence doesn't come back can I still pick up the car using my paper version and a passport?

I know the paper Licence isn't needed now but can you still use it, surely there are people who still only have paper licences?

    Thanks for any help offered.

If you have the very old paper-only type of license, then take that plus photo ID (passport).
If you have the not-so-old type of license , take both parts.
If you have the new type (photo only) then just take that.

Is this in the UK. I have never heard of the police taking a license for a speeding stop?

Don't want to be rude, but did you actually read my question?

Yes uk. When they issue a fixed penalty you have to surrender your photo I'd Licence. I've rung the penalty office to enquire and hopefully they are going to get it back to me.
When I enquirer about why the took it, she said it's the las that they have to have the Licence present when they process the fine.

This happened to my husband several years ago when we were flying into Denver. He only had the old paper licence at the time and the police gave him a receipt for it which the car rental company ( I think it was Dollar ) accepted without batting an eyelid.
