    Dollar and fuel

I am confused. On the quote for dollar silver inclusive option it says collect full, return full but if you click on terms and conditions it says you will be charged for a tank of fuel on return however much is in there. It also says this on compare the suppliers page. Which is correct?

Be very careful, we got caught out over this, told us to bring the car back empty, it was a quarter full on return, once back home we were charged for a full tank. I questioned this from Florida car hire, and could not understand their confusing answer. Let's hope someone on here can clarify this because I felt ripped off.

It can be confusing, but below is how it works with Dollar, Thrifty, Alamo and National:

On all options the car comes with a full tank of fuel.

On the Gold option, return the car as empty as possible. You will not be charged for fuel.

On the Silver Option do either of the following, but you must make it known at time of collection which option you want:

    (a) Pre-pay for a tank of fuel on collection, and return the car as empty as possible. You will not get any refund for any fuel left in the car. The charge for the tank of fuel will be more or less the current cost of fuel at the pump.

    (b) Do not pre-pay for a tank of fuel and return the car with a full tank of fuel. You will not be charged for fuel. If choosing this option, make sure you keep your receipt, and ensure the car is filled within 10 miles of the return location.

If you choose option (b) but return the car without a full tank of fuel, you will be charged for fuel at a much higher rate than the pump price, upon your return.

Can the return full be used with Dollar, it seems that its only Alamo and National that offer this when you read the silver hire options on the car hire site. Dollar is not mentioned

quote From the hire options page.

•The tank will be full on collection. If you return empty you will be charged for the tank of fuel on return of the car. If you select Alamo or National, and return the car full then you will not be charged.

Is there any update on this? The Fuel Options page now says that you have the choice of returning full (and not buying a tankful from Dollar), but the terms and conditions for the Dollar Silver Basic option, which is what you have to agree to, still says "Collect with a full tank and return as empty as possible. Dollar will charge you for a full tank plus tax, at a rate up to around 2 times the current pump price" - no option to decline the purchase of a full tank. Which is right?

    Thanks

Yes, see my post #3 above which is still valid - the rules are the same with Dollar and Alamo. I'll take a look at our site terms in due course as they may still be a bit out of date in that respect, as Dollar used to have a different policy than Alamo.
