    Bicycle hire??

My wife is a keen cyclist and wants to know if we can rent a bicycle anywhere near Orange Tree villas. I don't know of any such places myself and would be grateful for some help.

Even if we could hire one, is it safe to cycle around as long as one remains well within the estate?

Someone else, I think Chrisj, asked this a while back and the answer was that it was probably cheaper to buy a bike in Wal-Mart (around $40-$50) than it would be to rent one.

There are no cycle lanes on main roads as there are in the UK but around the community should be fine. I wouldn't recommend she tries the 27 though as it's a fast road (65 mph) in places. Oh, make sure that she takes her helmet with her though.

I searched for somewhere to rent bikes and could not find any. Ended up buying them at Wal Mart as suggested by Blott. But you are not going to get any bike for $40/$50. I bought four and they ranged from the cheapest at about $75 to $130. I normally dont cycle but I have got to say I really enjoyed it with my wife and kids. Riding around the estate and down to the local stores on 192 was more than enough for me. I especially enjoyed riding down to the stores in the mornings for groceries. This is something that I could never do at home and got a great sense of freedom being able to do it. I am normally a couch potato and would never consider walking down to the stores. So it great to enjoy doing this and get some exercise as well.It is strange that bike rental is not available as I am sure a lot of people would use it.

Actually, you can get bikes in Wal-Mart for around that price for adults!

    Try http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catal...%3A4178%3A4180 or http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catal...%3A4180%3A4183

I haven't tried this service, so I don't have any experience of them, but you may want to give it a go.

"Bicycle Hire is available for one or two weeks at a time. All machines are modern and well maintained. They will be supplied with a safety helmet and sheet of National Park cycle paths around the local area.

Rates are $35 for one week and $50 for two weeks, or part thereof.

    Cheers

Seems the cheaper option is to buy them from Walmart and leave them behind as we will be there for
    3 weeks.

    Thanks

    Chrisj,

It would be cheaper to buy your own, but there are liability and safety issues if you leave them at the villa.

If you do get bikes, don't forget to get helmets.

We have helmets which we would take with us, if we do decide to buy
I would ask the Villa owner if we could leave them at the villa, not
sure what we would do if the answer was no

Other than that we are thinking about taking our roller blades instead
or even buying some out there
