As Val has said, have you tried Saga? They don't just cover the elderly but are used to providing quote for older people with pre existing conditions.
we have just had to change our travel insurance as Nat West have stopped doing travel insurance. We both have pre existing conditions and Saga would cover us though they were not the cheapest, we went with Aviva in the end.

have you considered getting a private consultation for your wife, an initial consultation is not usually that expensive and if the tests required were too expensive you would not need to go down the private route. There are some private hospitals which will give you the cost of your treatment/investigations upfront so that you know the price at the outset.
its not an ideal solution and the costs might be prohibitive but it may be worth investigating for piece of mind.

I had a problem in Oct last year, fortunately we have private health cover, but I was seen, had scans and a minor op all within the space of two weeks, I was then able to all my travel insurer and get clearance to travel on 7th Nov.

    Travel insurance Question

Hi, yes we tried saga but they would not cover any pre existing condituons while waiting for an undiagnosed symptom whether linked or not. that's pretty common from all. staysure were the same but did offer a very good price for a policy that excluded the pre existing but did list them and said they could be included any time up to the date of travel if the investigation concluded or made a diagnosis in the meantime.
Able2travel are the only company to ask questions about the investigations. They took details but say they have to refer them the the medical team on Monday and will get back to me.

    Liz,

When did Nat West stop doing insurance?

We are insured with Nat West through our bank account and they cover our pre existing conditions and I only paid the premium for the pre existing conditions last October for 12 months.

I hope we are still covered.

Saga although saying they are for older people tend to have upper age limits even if you don't have ailments.

we got a letter just before Christmas to say they would not be renewing it when the policy expired on 1st Feb. Our policy was a stand alone policy not one of the benefits included in my husbands account ( he has a very basic account )My sister and her husband have a Nat West policy which includes a black card and they get travel insurance included as one of their black card benefits. They have not heard anything about their policy so I am guessing it just applies to stand alone policies.

    Thanks Liz,

We have the same account as your sister so I guess we will wait and see what happens when the insurance expires in October.

Word of caution if you do decide to go, When my wife started having the heart problems prior to being diagnosed with irregular heart beat, she had a bad turn while out at the villa and we went to Celebration hospital and they kept her in over night. (1 night)

The bill came to $7,500 USD Thankfully the Insurance company at the time paid the bill,

    Regards,

    Mark.

    Travel insurance Question

hi and thanks for the advice. obviously its a worry to go without her heart condition covered and the only comfort is that she has not just started with her heart problem as she had a small attack last march and she was taken in straight away and had a stent fitted within an hour from start to finish. since then tests have shown no damage to the heart muscles and she has been advised that she should have no further issues.

BUT you never know and as you say we couldn't be in a more expensive place. it is a worry. In theory she is less likely to have a problem with it than she was before the attack.
