From yesterday (18th Nov 14) Virgin now charge to book your seat on a flight at any time before the 24hr check in period if you are in economy. The charge is £25 for a standard seat and £35 for extra leg room/exit seats.

Sue... if they can get away with it they will try it!.... i remember booking seats years ago only to be given different seats on checkin in... i have 'booked' seats for tomorrow but havent paid for them.. we'll see what happens tomorrow when we go to florida but checking in this evening...

It's 72 hours if you have flying club membership.
worth signing up for even if you don't use Virgin that much.
No - just seat allocation 72 hours prior to flight take-off
Premium seats can still be "picked" 60 days prior to your flight, albeit i wouldn't be surprised if this gets chopped back to 72 hours.
We're out again in early March with our daughter & husband... so that'll be 200 quid to guarantee that we all sit together.
As our daughter says, that's an awful of outlet shopping
For anyone booking Premium Economy (or Upper), you can select seats 336 days in advance with no charge.

Thanks for this info. I did not know seat booking so far in advance was now available. I have just booked our seats for May 2015.
