    Valet Parking / Insurance

    Hi,

I have been reading elsewhere on the web that it is frowned upon by the rental companies to allow a valet to park your rental car (assume it's because the renter is insured and not the valet??).

    Is this true??

We've never used valet parking before, but many hotels we are looking at only have valet parking (mainly San Francisco).

    Thanks in advance

    Sean

    Very interesting question.

One would think the hotel, restaurant would have the relevant insurance in place.

But if it were a minor dint/scratch which you didn't notice, then on return of the car it was spotted, the renter would be liable:-(

Were told "check the car before we leave the airport"

Are we now to "check the car when returned by the valet"??

You could spend all holiday just checking the car.....lol....

More of a concern is that it's taken for a ride by the "valet" - kind of like Ferris Bueller's Day Off !!

What if it's stolen when you've just handed the keys to someone else that you don't know??

Maybe I just watch too many films and read too much on the internet!!

    Maybe you do Sean....

That said "if" I was going to do a Ferris, I wouldn't bother doing it with the Chrysler van[][]

    Hi all,

Can anyone confirm whether handing the keys over to a valet is a no-no???

    Many thanks

I just spoke to Alamo. They say it's fine for our customers to use valet parking, even though the valet staff member is not listed on the rental agreement. Any loss or damage is still the responsibility of the customer, but since our Silver Basic, Silver Inclusive and Gold options carry no excess, then there will be no charges payable by our customers.

    Hi Roger,

    Many thanks for confirming.

Can now look at some more (valet parking only) hotels!

    Thanks again
