    Luggage Collection

Does anyone know how long we might have to wait for our luggage in Orlando Airport?
Myself and husband travel to Orlando on a regular basis but always take our bags with us.
Our son and his family will be travelling with us on this occasion and we will have too much luggage to take up the escalators so will have to leave it to be transferred to main terminal.

It can take some time. When we were there in September, I waited for the second luggage collection while Gerry got the hire car sorted - the car desks are next to the final collection carousel if you are travelling with Virgin, and he was back with us long before the luggage arrived. I kept asking if we were at the correct place. I guess it was about 30min. Not many people take this option so there were only a few families waiting with us for luggage.

An alternative - if there are a few of you, is to get a couple of you to take as much luggage up the escalator as poss while the others wait at the bottom with the rest of the cases etc. One then stays at the top, while the others relay luggage up the escalator between the one waiting at the top and the one waiting at the bottom. The staff may try to discourage this, but if you organise it between you in advance and just get on with it quietly, they wont notice what you are doing ! It might even help if the one at the bottom waits in the corridor a little before you get to the escalator - just after customs. If you start dithering about at the bottom of the escalator, the staff will just take your cases and put them back into the conveyor belt system to avoid you creating a bottle neck.

It can take a long time. We picked friends up in September and their last piece of luggage arrived on the carousel well over 2 hours after they landed. We went to Virgin and asked if they could check if it had been lost (there was nothing else on the carousel by that time and it had stopped) but they said it can take quite a long time to come through and told us to be a little more patient! They had someone in a wheelchair and had to have the luggage transferred to the main terminal, but definitely use the escalator like Sue says if you can.

I guess it's how long is a piece of string really, others will have got luggage a lot quicker I imagine.

When we arrived on an internal flight all luggage goes directly to the second collection point so we had no choice, however it did seem to come through fairly quickly
