    Question One way flights!

    Hi

Has anyone recently booked/investigated a one way flight?

I need to book a return flight from Florida (we are going out by boat) and the prices are nearly twice what a return trip would be.

Does anyone have experience of booking a return and then not using the 2nd flight? Would I get my taxes back?

    Looking for advice? Thanks

Which airlines are you looking at?

We have done this a couple of times when our sons finished at their universities in America. We booked American Airlines and Virgin USA sites and 'the bank of Mum and Dad' were able to pay for the flights using our UK credit cards. It was certainly cheaper than booking from the UK.

The best way is to use frequent flyer miles because they are just half of the return price (obviously). If you have any, look at that option.

I'd strongly discourage buying a return and not using the second part because a lot of airlines will come after you for the difference in fare. In fairness, not all will but it is risky.

    Thanks for the advice.
I am looking at BA from Tampa but will consider Orlando.

I have looked at using miles but have already used them for one.

It looks like Aer Lingus or Iceland Air are going to be the cheapest at between £350-450 but not great routings on those. As you say, BA will be well over double that.

When my SIL moved over here (albeit from Boston) he found Icelandair beat everyone else by several hundred pounds for a one way flight. Out of interest have youu asked whoever you booked your cruise with as they often offer packages that include the lfight home so they may heave an idea or see if it is possible to add it onto your itinerary if youu booked through TA?

We usually use Icelandair for one way flights.
