    Debit Card Hold?

Hi all, I've just booked for the first time ever using alamo so here's hoping everything goes smoothly...we collect on 31st July at MCO.

We will be using a debit card for collecting the car and, given that the entire rental is prepaid through uscarhire, I'm wondering how much the hold will be? I#ve had various answers from 100 dollars to the full cost of the rental?

Can anyone give me some clarity

    Many thanks

There is no definitive amount, but it is generally either nothing or up to $500. Best to assume $500 but that is very unlikely.

also, am I right in assuming I can't use the kiosks with a debit card?

    Thanks again!

PS: It was because of the amazing customer service I witnessed on these forums and via an email with one of your agents that I decoded to book with a 3rd party for first time ever! (I said as much on Tripadvisor) so well done folks...keep up the great work!

Mi niece used a prepaid Fairfx card at Christmas and $500 was placed on hold with that.

I confirm if you have a debit card then you cannot use the kiosk.

One more question...If I've checked in online can I go straight to the garage? I'm trying to avoid the hard sell at the desk embarrassment!!

Hi I'm in the same situation and reading this thread I thought I would email Alamo at Orlando below is my email and the reply I received.

    Hello
I have booked a rental for a 12/15 seat van through UScarehire for collection on the 1st October and return 16th October.I am fully paid with UScarehire and have completed the Alamo save time online form using reservation number:*************
I am a British citizen and am flying in on British Airways and have proof of my return flight on the 16th October.
    My question is:
I will not be using a credit card but will be using my Natwest Bank Visa Debit card, could you tell me how much will be swipped and held on my card so I can budget for our trip to the USA.
Sorry a long message for a short question.
I look forward to your reply.

Thank you for contacting Alamo. My name is Chris, and I'd be happy to assist you with this request!

The amount of the rental will be held on the debit card. The amount will be released once the vehicle has been returned.

We look forward to seeing you in Orlando and please let me know if you have any further questions. Have a great day!

    Sincerely,

    Chris

I wasn't expecting that amount locked off my debit card, lets hope it is less when I get to the desk. I really don't understand the large amount when the rental company can see you are returning back to the UK on a given date.

It really isn't worth contacting the car rental companies about such things as you will just get their generic answers, that won't necessarily relate to whether you booked with them directly, through us or through another agent. In this case Alamo don't even know how much the rental was as they don't know what we charged you. Also, bear in mind the overall cost of the car hire is made up of lots of components like rental (relatively small), insurance (most of the cost), taxes and surcharges. So if they hold the actual rental amount then it would be nowhere near the total amount you paid.

I didn't think of it like that, thanks Roger I have to say the service from this site is first class that's why I have recommended uscarhire to three or four friends now.
