    Thanksgiving

So, I have spent a few days trying to persuade my kids into a trip to Orlando during half term and have got nowhere so my wife and I are going to go on our own instead. We booked this morning to go 21st - 28th November and I have just realised that we will be travelling back on Thanksgiving. Is there anything we should know going out there at this time, is there something we really should do or conversely anything we really should avoid? We are due to go as a family in March and the kids really want to avoid the theme parks so I figured that my wife and I could get our fix on this trip.

As it is just the two of us we are breaking from the norm and sensible choice (a villa) and we have booked to stay in one of the Universal hotels (can't remember the name but it is the Italian one). I hope that it is within staggering distance of City Walk.

Sounds like the Portofino... we had a couple of nights there a few years ago while we were waiting to get into our villa. You can get a boat from outside the hotel to citywalk, it's easily within staggering distance ;-) The parks will be busy around Thanksgiving so I'd try and get your fix early in the week.

I don't know who you're flying with Fraser but I've flown back from the US on Thanksgiving Day a couple of times on US carriers and your post has just prompted me to realise I'm doing it again next month! On both occasions the crew were all dressed up in Red/White/Blue and made it a bit of a party atmosphere even though the flights weren't anywhere near full.

We are flying with Virgin, so I am guessing that they will be wearing red, red and red

I know, we had a strange moment on our last visit where the kids sat us down over dinner and said "whilst we can see you and Mum and enjoying the parks, we really have had enough of Florida" we ended up agreeing that we could go every other day and do what they wanted on the other days!! Took me a good while to persuade them to go next year again.... That all said, they have chosen this years holidays and we have had a blast touring Canada in an RV.
