If only BA went from Birmingham, not sure why they don't operate at all from there, someone once said that BA fell out with the airport for some reason, not sure if that's true.
We are also in the Midlands and stay at a hotel after the return flight as would fall asleep if trying to drive up the M1. Would be great if BA flew from Birmingham could be there in about 45 minutes.

We considered that Lyn, but you can't get in the room until 2pm?

It's quite common for airport hotels to offer day rooms or even hourly rates. I've never used one at Gatwick but I'd be surprised if that option wasn't available at one of the hotels there.

EDIT: Just checked and see that both the Hilton and Sofitel will take bookings for day rooms. There may well be others but I didn't look beyond those.

Were we stay they will let you have a room as soon as one is available. We have always been in by 10am at the latest, usually as soon as we arrive.

I too wish there was a decent flight fromEdinburgh. If we want to fly fromGatwick, the wait between the return flight from Orlando arriving and the flight to Edinburgh is horrendous. Edinburgh to and from Gatwick flights are pretty sparse.

I honestly don't get what's so special about BA but they certainly have their loyal customers. I can't see why anybody outside the SE of England would go through the hassle of getting to and from Gatwick to fly with them when they have alternative services from local airports connecting within the US.

Did the Edinburgh>Gatwick>MCO route with BA last year because the price was reasonable (£520).

Wouldn't be in a hurry to do it again.

United via Newark is much better all round.

There are a lot of flights Virgin have from Manchester now. I noticed when doing LGW - Orlando checks there seem to be several a day flying via manchester.

I'm not sure about a 'lot' or 'several a day'. There is a daily service with an extra flight on 3 days of the week (which bizarrely only returns to Manchester on 2 days of the week according to this link). I also think the main point is Virgin could do with some decent competition on the Manchester route to perhaps make their fares a bit more palatable.
