    Internationa driving licience - Alamo

I'm getting conflicting reports regarding the IDL - do I need one?

    Thanks in advance!

I would say yes because if you have an accident and / or are stopped they will ask to see the Licence

No you do not need one the law was changed back very quickly and they are no longer needed for UK citizens driving in Florida

As long as your own license is in english - no. IDL are just an english translation of foreign DL. The recent hiccup has be shelved for now

If you have a paper licence then you need an IDL I found this information on a poster when we went to the post office in Febuary.

We've been travelling to Florida for 17 years, hiring cars each trip and no one has ever commented on our paper licences.

An IDL is simply an english translation of a foreign driving license. So if your license is in English, you do not need an IDL.

This may have been the case in Feb but I don't think that is correct now as the new law was repealed.

    Ancient history !!!
The IDL law if Florida was repealed due to the Canadians' objections.....
There is NO requirement for an IDL in Florida at all !!!!!
( Even if your licence is in French - 50% of canadian licences are !! )

Some companies may want to see one even if your license is in English as there is no photo on your paper one. Hubby did get one in case but wasn't asked for it in April (he'd got it in case the law hadn't been repealed by the time we went) but it's useful as back up. Your passport should be goo enough photo id if they want to see it with your paper llicense
