    Thomson gold choice villas

We are going on holiday with Thomson's in July to Orlando, and we are looking to find out if anyone can give us feed back on there gold villas, which we believe are in Haines, Clermont or Davenport. Interested to find out if there is a preferred location, where the villas are best... Read a few reviews on different sites regarding quality of the villas, need to have our mind set at rest as this holiday is not cheap... Any feed back would be appreciated

    Many Thanks

    Lyn

It is a bit difficult for the owners on here to respond as this site is run by owners who let out their own villas directly so when you book a villa you actually know which villa you are booking, where it is located and the owner can answer any questions you might have in advance which Thomson's are unlikely to do.

As far as which is a 'preferred location' to a degree that is down to personal choice as to what you want out of a community or area as some people who have been more than once have their own preferences which might be they like to be located on the 192 or US27 or have specific ideas of what they want which might be a lake view, or to be able to walk to shops.

Sounds to me like they are on US 27 - just going by the locations mentioned.

Also every community will have some homes that are the 'bees knees' and some that are more basic - and everybody will have a different view on what constitutes the 'bees knees'!
I'm sure your villa will be fine but if for any reason you're not happy when you arrive make sure you get straight onto the rep and hopefully they will be able to move you. We booked through a travel agent many years ago for our first trip to Florida and the first villa they sent us to didn't have the facilities that we'd booked, they managed to move us after a few days and the next place was better.

I had this dilemma a few years ago. Basically every community will have great homes and good homes, it's the luck of the draw. Also the locations you mention cover a fairly wide area so it would be hard to narrow a comment down.
The only thing that could be said is that these areas are possibly the furthest from the attraction area. Claremont maybe the exception. That said they are still within an acceptable travelling time but you would not be able to nip back mid day and return later. Well you would but not something you would do as a norm. Haines City is some 30+ miles to Universal Studio and could take at least 40 min.

    Hope this helps a bit.

    Lyn,
we've never stayed in a Thomson villa, but have stayed in Davenport a few times and going back there next year. We find it is well served with the shops you need and is an easy journey to the major attractions.
From memory I think Haines city is, as David mentions. a bit further away than the other areas.

    Lyn,

it is also worth bearing in mind that the villa will be in that postal area, as they are set by the biggest town.

As an example, my villa had a Clermont postal address, but was 15 miles from it and 10 mins drive from Disney. I am sure you will have a great trip.

    Hi Lyn,

The areas you mention, Haines, Clermont and Davenport probably cover about 90%, if not all, of the rental villas available in the Orlando area.

Maybe you could check with Thomson to find out which 'Community' your villa will be located in. Pretty much every villa is located in a community, and each community will have a different look and feel to it. Some people will like the feel of one community over another but it's very much personal preference. On each community you'll get good villas, you'll get exceptional villas, and, sadly, you'll get some duds as well.

The community is the first starting point though. Find that out from Thomson and the rest falls into place.

You may not be able to find out from mThomson as sometimes they just reserve them through a mangaement company or agent and only get addresses given a short while before. It really depends on what your contract says, if it is allocation on arrival then they will see what is available when you are due to go. That way the agency knows which villas have other bookings and what is free that time.

I used to handle these travel agent block bookings. There is no way of finding out where you will be located as management companies will only release what is available on the day. They are issued on a first come first basis. Your villa should be of the standard you have paid for. During very busy times (easter, xmas, thanksgiving etc), you may not get what you have booked (no different to an airline or hotel overbooking). In July this should not be a problem.
