We bought a fairly basic TomTom about 4/5 years ago and then added the USA maps - but check when you buy that it has sufficient memory for the USA map. We went to John Lewis and found them very helpful. The assistant knew what he was selling and had time to talk it through unlike many big electrical chain stores where we were given wrong information about what we could and couldn't add.

We bought a Garmin in Walmart for under $50.....worth buying if you visit a few times - otherwise just hire one from here and it will always be up to date and good value especially for the first time visitor

We also have a TomTom which we bought a few years back. It's a 920T and came with maps of Europe and the USA pre-loaded. Works great and wouldn't be without it.

Sounds like you are lookimg for second hand. In which case I would not advise it, Florida Maps in particular have been outdated very quickly in the past few years. You can upgrade them but the whole package would cost you more than a new unit.
