Ceri, where have you seen this. I own a Post Office and the message yesterday morning was to advise customers that they should obtain an IDP for driving in Florida and to inform them of the nearest Post Office that issues them as we don't.

I have applied for one and for the sake of £5.50 or £8.00 I think it worth anyone getting one, then there is no doubt about eligibility to drive and whether you are covered by insurance.

I sent my daughter to our main post office yesterday, and they will not issue and IDP for Florida.

Surely Ceri they can't do that. When you get an IDP it allows you to drive in any of the Countries listed, as far as I'm aware. We will just apply and say we are planning a trip to Europe (if you actually have to state, when applying, where you are travelling to).

Very surprised at that as Babblin Boo has said you are applying for an IDP which allows you to drive in all countries who were signatories to the 1949 Gevena Convention on Driving, not just the USA.

If you look on the back of the application form the 'USA' is one of the listed countries. You have been given wrong information.

Just because its your main post office doesn't mean its one of the few that issue IDP's . Not all main post offices do

They said to her that it was not needed for Florida and that they will not issuing it for that country. This one was the one that issues them.

One of my guests has just obtained one from the Post Office in Leeds so they are issuing them for Florida. It's puzzling why yours will not issue one.

I am Canadian and on the TV news last night it stated that CAA (equivalent of American Automobile Association) are now offering refunds to those who purchased a IDP The newspaper today also said that Canadians did not need the IDP. I called CAA and they said it was now no longer needed (at least for Canadians). Still may get one to cover me as the cost is only $25.00 and "better to be safe than sorry".
