I think the RAC do as well but people seem to have been getting them much quicker. Only did AA really aswe've always had good service from them. We also didnt want it to be valid until 24th April so the ma hold off on sending it out till just before then. As we don't travel till End of April figured we may as well have it valid for as long as possible.

You can apply now and have it start on 24th April. We have ours and they don't start until 1st May.

We have applied so they obviously dont hold on to them for later delivery. It was only the end of the week so i'm sure it's on its way.

On the application form it asks for your date of travel, that date is transferred to the front page of the IDP and it's valid for one year from that date. You can only post date it 3 months from the date of application.

It might be more sensible to delay ordering the IDP until a few weeks before your trip to Florida. By the end of next week we should find out how the Florida Legislature are going to deal with the ridiculous situation that they find themselves in.

We're going end of April and since they may not have it organised till some time in March didn't want extra hassle close to the date. Will be useful if we take any day trips to France anyway so no loss.

Sorry Steph, not understanding where day trips to France come into it. Are you suggesting an IDP is needed in France?

You can use your Great Britain (GB) or Northern Ireland driving licence in all European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) countries, and Switzerland an IDP is not necessary.

I just meant as a back up in case the French decided it needed to be translated into French as well. Didnt go last year so haven't checked the current situation but nothing surprises me. There always seems to be something different to think about each time we go. Latest we saw is making sure "speed camera alerts" are turned off on the sat nav as they are illegal in France etc.

We will need one later this year as we will be visiting our son in Oz (can't wait), so we just got ours early as we are in Florida in April.
