    Passport Question

    Hi

We are travelling to Florida in July this year 2013 but need to update all 4 family passports.
My wife and I are obvious adult updates and my youngest son who is 13 is obviously on a childs passport but my oldest son who is 15 now will be 16 by the time we fly. Can anyone tell me what type of passport I should be applying for, for him and what is the best and most efficient way of going about renewing them all?

    Any help much appreciated
    Regards
    L

Here's the link on the government website - I've copied and pasted the relevant part for your 15 year old

    https://www.gov.uk/get-a-child-passport
Children nearly or over 16 years old

If your child will be 16 within the next few weeks or is over 16, they must apply for a 10-year adult passport. They can apply without getting parental consent.

Incidentally when we changed my daughters child passport for an adult (she was actually almost 21 by then as we had to renew a month before her 16th birthday, as we were travelling to Europe for her birthday), we were surprised to find that whilst we thought we needed to tick "first 10 year passport"the Post office told us itwas actually counted as a "renewal". If this is still the case it could save hassle as they were talking of introducing interviews for 1st time applicants.

Don't forget you will need to renew your Estas after the passports have been done.
