    Young Driver Package query

    Hi

Just reading this on the kiosk thread

"When you collect your car, you will need to provide a credit card as security deposit (in the same name as the license of the lead driver). If you wish to use a debit card for your security deposit then you cannot use the kiosk and must go to the rental counter. If using a debit card you must also show your return flight ticket"

If we want to use a credit card in another name, can we do this at the counter? As we've booked the young driver package, my son is the lead driver, (even though he's not actually going to be), but he only has a very small credit limit on his card and I had planned on using mine.

Quite often I have booked the car hire in my name and then handed over Stuart's card at the desk and it has not been a problem even though I am listed as main driver so would think you would be okay.

The official answer is that the lead driver (your son in this case) must have a credit card in his name.

In practice, as others will tell you, in most cases they will accept a credit card in the name of any of the other drivers.

Obviously I cannot tell you this will definitely be OK, since it's not official policy, so to be 100% safe, I would suggest trying to get his limit increased a bit before you go, or perhaps your card company will add him as an authorized user to your own card (which is usually issued very quick and means he will get a card in his name, with your limit).

Thanks Roger. Do you know how much they reserve on the card?

Often nothing, but expect between $250 up to max $500
