    Alamo Full Size SUV

    Hi there

I've booked a full size SUV (Alamo, it's described FFAR) for our Christmas trip. I booked and paid for it some time ago and the car types seem to have changed a bit in the meantime. My query is do these all have 7 seats? Our party size has just increased and I don't want to upgrade the car unless I have to.

As far as I know, we have booked a full size, and it has always been 7 seats, but on the once of twice occasion the boot size on having 7 seats is not good. I can't remember which one it was now. But the Tahoe, Chrysler Aspen as great. I have also has expedition, and journey. More often that not is has been a Tahoe. I have not driven the Hyundai Santa Fe, but it does look a small 7 seater.

We have just had the dodge journey it does have 7 seats but there would be no boot space if you have all the seats in place. We were only a party of 4 so the journey was an ideal car for us.

It's a mid size SUV rather than full size, is it not? I hope so, because it would definitely be too small for us.

We have always had a Tahoe or Expedition from Alamo when booking full size SUV. A few times we have been lucky and were given aa free upgrade to a Suburban, Escalade or Navigator. We arrived on Tuesday and there were lots of Tahoes in the garage at MCO.

I am not sure, I think it may be a standard, we were given a free upgrade from a mid size which should have been a RAV4 or the like to the Journey, it definitely had 7 seats because we put the back seats down when we chose the car to be able to get the luggage in.

If I request an upgrade locally is it likely to be cheaper? The reason I ask is I have an Alamo minivan (Dodge/Chrysler seven seater) booked and paid for (via Charter Travel). I phoned them today to ask if I could upgrade before we travel next month and was quoted a whopping £150 to go to a jeep Grand Cherokee equivalent. That seems an awful lot to me. we are a party of five and I think the "seating plan" on the Chrysler Voyager style minivans is a little anti social. I notice one post here said that they arrived on a Tuesday and there were plenty of Chevy's available, but we arrive on the Wednesday before Christmas so wonder if it might be a busier period and less choice. I realise I will be taking a chance by leaviung it, but just think the upgrade charge is rather a lot.

It will cost a fortune doing it locally, unless you are very very lucky.

I'm currently driving a Hyundai Santa Fe and it has 5 seats and is a Mid Size SUV. When I've booked a 7 Seater SUV which I take to be a Full Size SUV I've had Tahoe's and they indeed do have 7 seats but if there are 7 of you then you will not get your bags in as the rear 3 seats take up the luggage space.

If there are 7 of you, or you need the third row of seats then I suggest a 7 seat SUV will not be big enough and you may need a Premium SUV loke the Surburban which is long wheelbase Tahoe and has more boot space look at a mini van.

There are now 7 of us this year, and I know there won't be enough room in the boot. As it's only the journey to and from the airport which causes the problem, we can do some suitcases on knees or the floor for that bit. I like the Suburban and we've had one several times in the past, but it's an extra £400 which would be better spent elsewhere (budget is tighter this year and we're on an "austerity" spending plan!). A Tahoe or Expedition would be absolutely fine, but we just about never manage to get one. We've never had a Tahoe, and had an Expedition only once. The rest of the time we usually get offered something which just isn't as big as either of those, but is in the same group, which is a real nuisance. We got fed up with paying to upgrade to a Suburban at the desk, and it was great when this site started offering them bookable in advance.

If there was a chance the FFAR category doesn't always have 7 seats, then I would change it to the Suburban now. If they all have 7 seats, then I will take the chance and see what we get. If it's too small then we'll upgrade at the desk....maybe, after a lot of haggling.
