    Post dated ESTA

    Hi all,

We went to Orlando last November and my wife got stopped at Immigration with a problem regarding her fingerprints (the 1st time in 14 visits) it eventually got sorted. While we were waiting to get it sorted another traveller said that once you have a problem it's always ongoing even if you get it sorted that time.

We are going again this December and our ESTA's have expired, can I apply now and post date it as I don't want to apply nearer the time and have problems?

    Many thanks

    Keith

Don't think you can post date them Keith - think they run from the application date.

Good luck in December, but think you should be ok.

For less than nine quid each I'd do them now and get the peace of mind.

    Hope it goes smoothly.

Thank you for the replies. I think to be on the safe side I will do about three months before I go.

My wife is a nurse and over the years the use of hibiscrub has damaged the skin on her hands. Yes she has been a nurse for a long time.
However every time we go through immigration her hand/fingerprint scan always fails. She is asked if this has happened before she said yip and was told well you know what happens next as she is escorted off to the "wee" room has to go through the same questions and is told that a note is made and we are on our way to get the cases.

But it happens every trip. we have got used to it now LOL

Keith I had a similar thing happen a few years ago after several visits without any problems. Someone told me if you use the wipes that are often given out on the plane it can dry out the skin and affect the fingerprints. I also got called off to a small room even though some finger prints matched perfectly. Have never had any problems since then though.

I have very bad finger prints and always have to swipe two or three times, one immigration officer explained that I hardly have any prints.

I have never though been called to the wee room because of this tho',

The only time I was called into a room was when I was still radioactive and set off the machines.

Of course then they could not get the geiger counter machine to work, they were so apologetic for holding us up.

Although i have never had a problem with finger prints I was told by a US Immigration Officer that women have drier hands than men, a surprise to me. I was advised to wipe my fingers either across my forehead or behind my ear just before I get tot he 'desk of laughs'.

I have read this before, I think somewhere on this forum so I do it every time!
it is quite true that women "of a certain age" find their skin loses their natural oils[msnwink] although you would imagine everyone has sweaty palms as they approach the desk

I have heard that tip too to wipe your fingers on your forehead.
