    US/UK Power supply

Can anyone tell me if/how we can power a set of 'Hair straightners' in Florida. I have already checked for a voltage selector and there isnt one! Is there an adaptor we can get or are we better off buying a new set when we get out there?

    Thanks

The voltage, I think, is 110 in the US & 240 UK

I bought a pair out there they are no where near as pricey as they here.
I paid $18 in Walmart for a very similar set which here I paid £80 for.

I think UK adaptors are best for UK appliances. There are so many different types, that I'm sure you'll get one to suit your need. If in doubt, you can always take your thingammajig to a UK electrical shop and they'll give you the appropriate adaptor. In my experience, UK dealers are more knowledgeable about using UK appliances in the US than the other way round. The local electrical shop at Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire where I come from is a good example.

To use uk electricals in america you need a converter, which you can get in the airport
here before you go for approx £4, you can also get them in Florida for a few $'s

As I said, last July they were only £4 in Gatwick, I saw lots of them in Florida, but we
    already has enough

Just remember you eant the usa adaptor, its easy cos on the packet theres a piccie of the
american flag, It might be worth buying 2 if you have camera or video batteris that need
to be charged, if your like us I charge the batteries up and wifey decides she needs the
    hair dryer

The Hair straighteners will work in the US, they will just take a hell of a long time to heat up. We have left a set of heated rollers out there because we could not find a set, they heat up but take about twice the amount of time they would in the UK.

My daughters took their straighteners with them which work beautifully here (and should do as cost best part of £100). Well over there - disaster. All I can say is good job it was the winter as in the summer it is a waste of time. They have US ones and they do nothing either! (Cue fuming father while daughters spend 2 hours before they can leave the house, to shriek with horror as within 5 mins of being outside hair has frizzed up in summer heat[msnwink]!!!)

If you want something to work which uses power to heat then you will need a power transformer not just a plug adaptor. They cost nearer $25 and it's easier to buy a similar product over there.
