Hi, I last went to the states in oct 2010, and before that in June 2010, my esta runs out in June, will I have today for my new one? Obviously I have to do one for my son and husband which I know I'll have to pay for, but will mine be renewed with out payment, since I had one before the payment was introduced?

Unfortunately all Estas have to be paid for even if you had one before the charge was introduced. The main thing is to make sure you go via the official site and not one of the many others which can come up from a link and charge considerably more than the official site at $14 https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/
Everybody now has to pay every 2 years unfortunately (or earlier if your passport expires within that time frame.
