    Driven through toll road

Can anyone please advise me? We have just inadvertantly driven through the eazy pass toll rather than the pay booth on the new US429 . I assume that we will get a fine via the car hire company, can any one advise me if there is anything I can do whilst in Orlando to prevent this?

    Hi Diane

Maybe you could explain to the car hire company when you take the car back and see what they suggest?

    Diane,

You could try calling the Sun Pass Centre (1-888-865-5352) and explaining the situation and see if they will allow you to pay the toll. If that fails then explain to the car hire company

I know that some of the unmanned booths have an envelope that you can take if you have no change with you. You can then add the money to the envelope with details of the car so you do not get fined.

I would not worry too much as the usual procedure with car hire is that they simply double the toll charge and charge that to your account. I have a transponder and it didn't work properly on a couple of occassions and I phoned SunPass and I also spoke to Alamo and they said that so many rentals genuinely wemt through the pass accidentaly they now just double the toll. I don't know if that applies to all car hire but I got Alamo through uscarhire.com (link on here) and thats what happened to me.

This happened to me in 2010.

I went in the pass lane by accident and so stopped at the next toll booth and asked for advice. I was given a card which I had to fill it where it happened, date, time, vehicle license plate etc. I then mailed the completed card, with a US check for $1 for the missed toll to the address on the card.

However, about a month after I returned home to the UK Alamo tried to bill me an admin fee (about $10 or $11 dollars) plus the missed toll fee. I knew the check had been cashed and promptly told them and they cancelled this charge completely. I felt that Alamo were 'trying it on'.

I did this last year as I had to come off a section of the I4 I did not know and the next exit was a toll but unmanned. I never got fined and never heard a thing. I did ring Sunpass but they said our car hire would deal with it. Maybe they realise people in hire cars do make genuine mistakes

I by passed one of the toll booths on the Beachline in December 2008 when they had just moved them "off lane" by accident. A week or so after returning home I received correspondence from Alamo notifying me of the violation (date and time accurate) and a "bill" for the fine and the cost of the toll which I paid. Don't know whether Alamo were trying it on but I could not deny by passing the toll both so paid up.

I now have a Sun Pass account and transponder so its no longer a problem.

We are in the villa at the moment. We have a transponder and it started bleeping 3 times when we passed through the tolls. Turned out the battery had gone. stopped working on the way back from Winter Gardens. Phoned SunPass and they said as the rental car details were on my account any violations would be charged to my account.

If you have a rental car and transponder good idea to update the details at the start of each rental to ensure you are covered for any violations if the transponder doesn't work for some reason. It's something I never used to do but will certainly do now.
